After a resounding win against the Northcote Nanas last week, the Northern Dads Group Guinea Pigs are confident about this week’s top of the ladder clash against the unbeaten Fyansford Over-Fifties.
‘Some say we were pretty lucky to win last week,’ says half forward Jack, ‘But we put in some serious planning against the Nanas. We were always going to win. The fact that most of them didn’t hear the siren for the second half just made the win more convincing.’
The win has boosted confidence among the group and Jack thinks that another good performance is needed to establish the Guinea Pigs as a finals threat. ‘The Over-Fifties are an experienced bunch and their club has a rich history. There are a lot of knee replacements in the team and they use the titanium body parts to great effect to impose a physical presence out there. But we’ve been using some innovative training techniques. So we’re pretty confident.’
Our television crew was invited to this week’s training session to get some footage of the new training. ‘We work in five minute intervals,’ Jack says. ‘It’s kind of like a circuit with different exercises chosen to improve speed and strength.’
